Common Pitfalls and Real‑World Tips for Payroll Professionals
This session explores common payroll challenges and mistakes that occur in real‑world payroll environments. Attendees will gain practical tips and best practices for navigating compliance issues, resolving errors, and improving payroll processes based on experience—not theory.
Jon is the Director of Payroll for Group1001, where he oversees payroll and payroll tax operations. He brings more than 27 years of experience across payroll and human resources, including multi‑state, union, and international payrolls with global implementations in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, and Switzerland. Jon’s expertise includes payroll leadership, system selection and implementation, Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance, mergers and acquisitions, time and attendance, bonus programs, accounting, and financial planning. His HR background includes recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and managing both defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans.
At the national level, Jon serves on the PAYO Board of Directors and previously served as Vice President from 2021 to 2025. He has also served on the President’s Board of Advisors, National Speakers Bureau, and multiple PayrollOrg task forces, including government relations and strategic payroll leadership initiatives. Jon is a recipient of the Prism Award for Management (2017) and PayrollOrg’s Payroll Man of the Year (2020). He served on the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC) from 2022 to 2024 and the ACH Network Advisory Board. Jon holds a BBA in Human Resources Management, earned his Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation in 2002 with multiple recertifications, holds a Six Sigma Green Belt, and an Advanced Global Payroll Management Certificate.
